The human body has the ability to heal itself.  Acupuncture is one method that can break a pattern of disharmony and direct the body towards a more healthy and balanced state.  It works by accessing Qi, or energy, that runs through meridian pathways in our bodies.  By stimulating the acupuncture points, acupuncturists seek to restore normal energy flow, and in the process, stimulate the body's ability to heal itself.

Beginning  The Healing Process

Your first visit to our Center will consist of a 1.5 hour initial consultation.  This consultation will include a complete evaluation followed by a treatment.  Diagnosis begins with questioning your past and present medical history, lifestyle, diet, exercise, habits and occupation.  Visual examination of your face, body, and tongue is the next step.  Lastly, your practitioner will palpate your pulses in each wrist to determine which meridians (energy pathways) are not functioning properly.  All of the information gathered will help your practitioner create a personalized healthcare program for you.

The actual treatment consists of the insertion of the thin, sterile needles into the points on the appropriate meridians.  Usually you may feel nothing at all or a slight pinch, followed by a tingling, warm, heavy sensation.  The needles are left in the body for ten to thirty minutes, during which time, most clients feel a heightened level of relaxation.  Symptomatic relief may occur immediately or may take longer depending on the severity and duration of the condition.

Duration of the treatment depends on the nature of the disease and the patient's general health.  Treatments may be scheduled as often as several times per week, or as little as once per month.  More chronic conditions may require sustained treatment, while acute conditions may resolve in a few sessions.  Acupuncture treatments affect the body differently than conventional Western treatment. Each treatment builds upon the previous one, and a more balanced body gradually becomes the normal state.
